Active Vetcare in Sonning Common, Reading, is a reputable veterinary clinic that offers a wide array of services, including emergency veterinary care with extended hours and a veterinary nurse training facility. With a Google rating of 4.5 stars from 35 reviews, the clinic is generally well-regarded.
The practice has received positive feedback for its knowledgeable and compassionate staff, as highlighted by a review from Jane Hale, who praised the personal attention and reassurance provided to pets. Laura Kennedy also commended the clinic for being friendly, efficient, and fairly priced, considering it the best she has experienced.
However, not all feedback is glowing. A review by Ed Croft expressed dissatisfaction, citing concerns about the clinic's pricing practices and perceived exploitation due to limited competition in the area. Despite this, the clinic's commitment to care is evident in its varied services, which encompass routine check-ups, surgery, vaccinations, dental care, and more specialized treatments such as cardiology and orthopedic surgery.
The clinic's association with the Active Vetcare Veterinary Group and its receipt of the CVS award for outstanding contribution in 2023 further underscore its credibility. Additionally, it holds an RCVS Client Service Award for outstanding service and is recognized as a Silver-level Cat Friendly Clinic.
Overall, Active Vetcare serves a broad range of animals, from traditional pets like dogs and cats to exotic species and small birds, making it a versatile choice for pet owners in Reading and the surrounding areas.

I have used this practice for several of my pets. The receptionist, Vet Nurses and Vets have always been compassionate, helpful and very knowledgeable. They take time to get to know the animal and to reassure them. I feel very safe using them.

The treatment is ok and the staff are friendly which is why they get any stars at all. The problem is they seem to take advantage of lack of competition as a policy. I cannot drive due to illness so this vet is my only option. I expect to get my license next year and I will be going elsewhere when I can. I have spoken to other dog owners in the village and many travel as far as Woodley to vets after experiencing this practice. I am saddened to say this practice seems to make charges up they go along. My dog has had treatments on holiday at Pets at Home where 1 visit on a drop in is enough. This vet requires 3 booked visits & 60% more money for the same outcome. I have raised this and have not received an adequate explanation. My dogs well being is my priority. He finds visiting vets stressful so keeping the number of visits down is better for him & me. The money is secondary but when can drive I will use Pets at Home. Not good enough I am afraid and I feel exploited.

Always friendly, efficient and fairly priced. The best vets I've experienced so far.

Approachable and understanding staff, handled our new puppy brilliantly and explained everything well. Like the fact we can walk there too rather than having to drive. Covid restrictions (mask wearing) are still in place for everyone's safety

Saw my kitten quickly as he was poorly. She was a very nice vet and same with the nurse/receptionist. Although pricier than others.
